Join the School of Science at Fall Open House Events
Release Date:
Oct 8 2012
The School of Science at IUPUI invites prospective students to visit campus this fall for several events designed to highlight some of its most exciting programs and the diverse career opportunities available in Indiana’s booming life and health sciences and technology industries.
“The School of Science is a very active and engaging place,” said Simon Rhodes, dean of the school. “We’ve found that rather than tout the caliber of science research and academics taking place on campus, it’s best to bring future students to us so they can experience it for themselves.”
Oct. 12: Computer and Information Science Open House
The events kickoff at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 by highlighting the school’s Computer and Information Science program. Researchers and instructors in computer science, the fastest growing industry in the sciences, will be on hand to discuss the role computer science graduates will play in keeping businesses growing through technology.
Whether your interests lie in video game design, database management, multimedia development or systems analysis, the Department of Computer and Information Science at IUPUI has a program that will put you on the right path toward a successful career in this high-growth and challenging field.

Oct. 27: Explore Science
Hundreds of students each year enter the School of Science with plans to obtain an undergraduate degree before entering medical or dental school or various graduate programs. Each student seeks his own place in the booming life and health sciences fields in Indiana, which now account for more than $40 billion annually.
This Saturday event will have a career focus and help prospective students better understand the various paths people have taken as they pursued success in Indiana’s life and health sciences. Alumni will discuss the road they traveled to their specific careers and what students can expect if they follow a similar path.
Nov. 2: Discover the New Neuroscience Undergraduate Program at IUPUI
Described as one of the most explosive fields in the sciences, neuroscience explores the intersection between the brain and human behavior. The School of Science at IUPUI now offers a new undergraduate neuroscience program that will be key to filling these specialized positions in Indiana, where neuroscience remains a top economic priority.
Undergraduates in neuroscience at IUPUI can expect a wealth of research, internship and learning opportunities through strong partnerships with area hospitals, industry and research institutions.
All events will include discussion with faculty, administrators, students and alumni from the School of Science as well as tours of the facilities. For more information and to register for these events, visit http://www.science.iupui.edu/visit.
The School of Science is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service in the biological, physical, behavioral and mathematical sciences. The School is dedicated to being a leading resource for interdisciplinary research and science education in support of Indiana's effort to expand and diversify its economy.
